Defining Disability

  • Disability is defined in some Canadian human rights codes but is not defined in the Charter of Rights. Discrimination includes Perceived Disability, Anticipated Disability, Non-Evident Disabilities, Episodic Disability. Disability can be socially constructed by the interaction of impairment and prejudicial attitudes that serve as a barrier, the interaction of impairment and an inaccessible built environment or interaction with inaccessible information.
