Bancroft Institute Research & Action Workshop
The Bancroft Institute for Studies on Workers’ Compensation and Work Injury is holding a workshop on Measuring Successful Return to Work to look at evaluation approaches, including the research behind the WSIB’s “Better at Work” and therapeutic return to work policies.
Thursday Feb. 9: 6:30 p.m. – 8: 30 p.m. (Victoria College at University of Toronto – Room 206, 91 Charles St W – behind Isabel Bader Theatre) – Keynote address by Ellen MacEachen followed by a social event.
Keynote abstract: How do we measure return to work, how should we measure it, and why does it matter? This presentation reviews current approaches in the scientific literature to defining and measuring the return to employment after work injury and offers a critique of what is measured, and how and when. Qualitative research studies help us to get “behind” the numbers to point out important facets of return to work that should be considered when evaluating return-to-work policies and programs. The implications and politics of measurement will be discussed.
Friday Feb. 10: 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Friends House – 60 Lowther Ave). The full day session will include two panel discussions on Return to Work statistics and strategies, as well as breakout groups and strategy sessions.
Workshop goals:
- Identify promising measures of and supports for successful return to work
- Develop ideas for research to validate promising measures and supports
- Create opportunities for collaboration on tracking injured workers in the return to work process
Cost will be $125 / $65 for students / Free for unwaged. (Tokens are provided for the unwaged). Cheque payable in advance or at the door to “Bancroft Institute (IWC)”
