York Institute for Health Research: Income Security and Labour Market Engagement Project, Centre for Research on Work Disability Policy initiative
DESCRIPTION: The York Institute for Health Research (YIHR) is a university-based organized research unit that fosters interdisciplinary health research. YIHR is looking for a student research assistant to support a SSHRC funded research initiative, Centre for Research on Work Disability Policy (CRWDP).
Centre for Research on Work Disability Policy brings together over 50 academics and 40 partners from across Canada and funds graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. Our coordinated and trans-disciplinary applied research effort is a new approach to addressing the complex challenge of work disability policy. Our objective is to identify how people, when disabled, can be better retained and integrated into the Canadian labour market.
CRWDP activities include:
- Providing a forum for within- and cross-provincial and national dialogue on challenges and opportunities for improving the Canadian work disability policy system
- Identifying problems and challenges associated with program coordination and complexity
- Identifying relevant and favourable alternative approaches to system design and service provision through select comparisons with other countries and small-scale trials
- Mobilizing knowledge developed within and outside of the initiative in order to inform policy
- Building capacity for research and knowledge mobilization on the topic of work disability policy and labour-market engagement of individuals with disabilities.
CRWDP has laid the foundations for a rich training and mentoring program for graduate students. The RA will support the Ontario Co-lead, Dr. Marcia Rioux in knowledge mobilization activities, developing conceptual frameworks and other responsibilities as assigned.
Interested candidates should be interested and studying within the field of disability and employment. Some areas of interest may be: labour market policy, population analysis, labour-market analysis, law, program and policy analyses.
