Opportunity: Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Center for Disability Research (CDR), Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety

15 June 2015 to 15 November 2015

The Center for Disability Research (CDR) at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety in Hopkinton MA is seeking applicants for a two-year postdoctoral position in work disability prevention / return to work research. This is a fully-funded, joint program based at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), involving faculty at both locations; postdoctoral research is conducted primarily at the CDR.

The Institute is an independent organization dedicated to improving scientific knowledge in injury and disability prevention.  Current research activities are described in the CDR sections of the Institute's annual report

The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with our faculty to develop and implement original studies at the CDR related to understanding and preventing work disability, conduct data analyses, and prepare first-authored scientific publications. Our research focuses on prevention of work disability, addressing the early phases of work disablement and return to work, through studies involving workers, employers and health care providers.  This is an area where we have had considerable success in pursuing innovative analytic approaches and interventions.

Our postdoctoral fellows have found this to be an excellent opportunity to conduct important research, develop a strong publication track record, and begin a successful academic career.  This link provides brief summaries of current and former post-doctoral fellows  across the Institute.

This program has become quite competitive.  Successful prior applicants have had relevant training and experience, excellent recommendations, and collaborated with one of us in the Center to develop a proposal for an innovative project (or series of projects).

A highly detailed proposal is not necessary, but a clear statement of scientific justification, rationale, plan of work, and expected results is required. The PhD degree must be completed prior to starting the postdoctoral program. Interested persons should contact us to discuss and develop potential research opportunities before applying, at glenn.pransky@libertymutual.com.   We can discuss the application process and requirements: complete applications for summer 2016 start dates are due before November 15, 2015.
